Suet!
Last year, I forget when, Kirstin suggested that I make suet out of accumulated fat that I shouldn't throw down the garbage disposal. (In a facebook comment, maybe? Don't remember.)
So we've been saving it in the freezer ever since. It was a giant disgusting heaping mound of fat. So much fat and gristle and disgustingness that everytime I opened the freezer looking for treats, I'd have to notice that instead.
Today we made suet. We melted the pile of disgustingness in a iron skillet. Then we mixed the liquid fat into things like millet, raisins, sunflower seeds, and some cut up limes that were going unused.
Then we poured them into saved plastic suet containers from ones we purchased.
This was not a tidy process.
We got 9 containers of suet out of our giant pile of disgustingness. I hope the birds enjoy it! Now to clean the kitchen!
