Cafe Soleil
(It's not really a review, because everyone knows that the cafe under L'Etoile is great. It's more like a note of appreciation.)
Twice in the last week, I've been able to catch a quick bite to eat at Cafe Soleil. The first time, I had Grandma Vi's Summer Sausage Sandwich, along with a cup of Tuscan Bean Soup. The plate arrived with a half sandwich (cheaper) piled high with thin slices of tasty summer sausage. There was mayonniase too, but the bread and meat were the heart and soul of this dish. Along side were the most beautiful little purple potato chips. You know...those purple potatoes you can buy at the Farmer's Market? Fried? Salted? Absolutely delicious. Enchanting. I'd buy a whole other plate of them, if I could.
And yesterday, I met LeenGreenBean (now 60,000 weeks pregnant) for lunch. I had the quiche. It was a small piece and arrived on a plate with a salad of mixed greens. Divine. The crust was more crunchy than any other quiche I'd ever had, and the quiche was rich and delicious.
And now they serve breakfast sandwiches, and so I must come back and try their breakfasts.
Yes, it's more expensive than most other lunch places (around $10). Yes, you have to wait in line for what seems like eternity. I had hoped to buy an "epi" to munch on my trip back to work, and the line was just too long to justify it. But, their breads and bakery items are divine and everything there is fresh and wonderful. LeenGreenBean told me that eating there for her is a special treat. It's a special treat for me too.
